When I was growing up I admired my mom, my grandmother and aunts and they were always trendsetters. They're my inspiration. I also modeled professionally for quite some time and worked in the retail clothing arena for about 5 years prior to opening the boutique. Those experiences helped to refine my eye for fashion as well as intensify my love for it! How did you decide to open BeYouTiful? Deep in my heart I knew I would eventually start my own company so I decided to go back to school for business. While I was in graduate school working on my MBA one of our assignments was to put together a web based business and naturally I did an online clothing boutique. That's when the light bulb went off in my head and I began to toy with the idea of opening my own store. From that point on I mustered up enough faith to believe that what started out as school assignment was actually an attainable goal and I've been on a roll ever since. What would you like to say to all the young men and women that may be interested in working in the fashion industry or starting their own business? I'm very thankful that I get to wake up every morning and do something that I absolutely love and know I was born to do. Every day I go to work and help people look and feel good about themselves. It's so satisfying to see a woman's face light up when she finds the perfect outfit to wear out to celebrate her 20 th wedding anniversary with her husband or to see an excited teenager find her perfect prom dress. What a blessing it is to be able to make that type of contribution to a person's life! I was once told, “Whatever you choose for a career should be something that you would love to do even if you were doing it for free.” That's how I view fashion…the love I have for it is what gets me through the difficult times in my career. It's essential that you LOVE what you do and no matter how impossible your dream seems, if God put it in your heart he'll help you to achieve it! So dream big and stay BeYouTiful! |
